In the XXth century, the Caspian ecosystem underwent irreversible changes due to introduction of exotic species, regulation of the surface flow, and other causes. For the sake of the mankind, in particular, the population of the littoral countries, we need to safeguard all that could be kept - including the largest world population of sturgeon fishes. Environmental safety of the Caspian Sea is interpreted as the status of its security (ecosystem and living resources) from different threats, ultimately coming from the man. To prevent these threats is within human power but we should be aware of the sequels of our decisions and actions. Threats to environmental safety of the Caspian Sea depending on their spatial and temporal location can be classified as external and internal, real and potential. Besides, these threats can be classified referring to their direct source and nature - political, legal, oil production, transportation, biological and hydrological. The objective of this bulletin is the assessment of events (for 2-3 weeks) occurring at the Caspian and its environs, in view of the regional environmental safety. It consists of 6 sections relevant to the main threats to environmental safety. Text in bold type goes the same in each issue.
