(20.08.2002) Полный Текст Сообщения НПО региона на англ. языке Сообщения НПО региоона на англ. языке *** ASPA CONDEMNS PROTESTS AGAINST BP President of the Azerbaijan Society for Animals Protection, Azer Garayev, expressed a strong protest against the electronic mail with anonymous messages concerning activities of bp, and characterized them as `hot air' and `incompetent statements'. Anonymous mails label bp's efforts to save the Mediterranean tortoise as `the silliest action'. Authors of e-mails believe that there is no need to rehabilitate those species since they are not valuable for Azerbaijan. They settle that these species were already taken out from the Red Data Book prepared during the Soviet times. The distribution of mails started after the fact that construction activities at Sangachal caused a temporary loss of habitat of tortoises and, consequently, motivated bp to hold their first rehabilitation program in Azerbaijan. Mr. Garayev denounced such non-ethic mails, bringing non-objective considerations regarding disappearance of Azeri flora and fauna Teta Khazri NGO and Baku Ecological News joined the protest of the ASPA.
